Rural Works Department over the years developed into a big and prestigious works organisation of the state Government of Bihar entrusted with the ambitious responsibility of connecting about 1 lac rural habitations with populations 250 and above.

This entails construction of over 1.10 Lac Km of rural roads underthe centrally sponsored scheme of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) andstate sponsored Mukhya Mantri Gram Sampark Yojana (MMGSY) along with a few morestate schemes.

In the last 10 years, the department has constructed about 52000Km length of rural road sections and plans to construct another 55000Km of roadlength including about 22000 Km under construction.
